TIME/TEMPERATURE INDICATOR FOR CORRECT PRESERVATION OF BLOOD UNITS

This type of indicator is applied on blood units at delivery time to the hospital and is designed to provide quick information on the preservation status outside the transfusion centre and / or during transport.
The indicator is calibrated to resist 80 hours at 8°C (time sufficient for the bag to be delivered the hospital and be returned if not used within 3 days) and confirming at a glance correct preservation. Exposition to heat accelerates the shelflife of the indicator (i.e. at 25°C the colour change takes place after 45 minutes, at 30°C after about 18 minutes).
